Calculate calendar age and elapsed time

An age calculator answers two different questions: the calendar age in years, months, and days, and the elapsed totals such as months, weeks, days, hours, and minutes. Enter the date of birth and choose the reference date. The reference date defaults to today but can be changed for a future milestone, an eligibility check, or a historical calculation.

Calendar age is not the same as dividing total days by 365.25. Month lengths vary and leap years affect the calendar remainder, so the result is calculated by borrowing days and months across calendar boundaries. Use the total-day value when you need an elapsed duration, and use the years-months-days value when the question is about a person’s birthday or a calendar deadline.

Worked example: Example: someone born on 2000-02-29 has a birthday edge case; compare the calendar result with the total days when planning an age-based rule.

Frequently asked questions

How is the age calculated?

It counts the full years, then the remaining months, then the remaining days between the birth date and your chosen date — the same way people say their age in everyday life.

Can I calculate age on a future or past date?

Yes. Set the 'age at' date to any day to find out how old someone was, or will be, on that date.

Does it account for leap years?

Yes. The calculation uses real calendar dates, so leap years and differing month lengths are handled correctly.

Is my date of birth stored?

No. The calculation happens entirely in your browser and nothing is saved or sent anywhere.
